We tend to have to make decisions at short notice in the case of frozen, snowy or waterlogged pitches. We will do all we can to give as much notice as possible of a cancellation, or postponement due to frozen pitches, and our intention is to play hockey whenever it is safe and possible to do so.
Wherever possible - please don't call committee or coaches as your first option to check if training is on!
As you can imagine - receiving a high number of calls at the point of making a pitch assessment may slow our ability to communicate the pitch status to everyone else.
In the case of a frozen pitch for training, we commit to:
1. Contacting all registered club members via the Pitchero app (you should get a notification if your notifications are enabled, and / or an email depending on your communication preferences).
2. Team Managers will make direct contact with squad members / parents as appropriate through WhatsApp groups.
If the pitch condition impacts on a fixture, team contacts will contact opposition and home teams through the normal channels, as well as any additional venues or match tea providers.
If there is no notification , you can assume training is going ahead as scheduled.
Should bad weather come about during a session, or pitch conditions deteriorate then it may be necessary to cancel training mid session. Please remain contactable - as above, we will post via Pitchero and the club website, and make efforts to call you if needed.
Our pitch assessments take into account the grip of the pitch, the ability to run/stop/twist/turn and the ability of a hockey ball to run over the surface of the pitch. If you have any concerns with the pitch conditions, please notify the coaching team at the time of your concern.
